PRODUCE - LOVE IS LOVE FARMS - PARTNER SINCE 2022
We are so excited to announce that in early 2022 we established a new partnership with Love is Love Cooperative Farm. The Martin's have been long-time friends with Joe Reynolds through our relationship at Georgia Organics, where Joe has been the Board Chair. Joe had managed a very successful organic 100-member CSA in Decatur for over a decade. Last year, he made the decision to work collectively with other farmers and purchase additional land. When he asked us if we were interested in supporting them through an investment, we jumped at the chance! Joe's assembled an amazing team of bright, hard-working farmers that are truly experts in organic growing methods and have enormous hearts. In addition to being able to help a friend, we will also get the benefit of having access to quality local produce from the cooperative in order to diversify our offerings for our CSA members. While our humble little one-acre plot is a great fit for greens, lettuces and small root vegetables, the extensive acreage of the cooperative allows them to grow larger root and slow growing vegetables (think potatoes) that we really can't! Expect to see some great new variety in our produce next year!
MUSHROOMS - ELLIJAY MUSHROOMS - PARTNER SINCE 2018
Ellijay Mushrooms is a unique mushroom farm located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Ellijay, Georgia. Their mission is to produce the healthiest, best tasting, and highest quality shiitake mushrooms. Ellijay Mushrooms is Georgia Grown, Certified Organic CCOF. Primus 3.1 Certified, Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) and Appalachian Grown. Martin’s Garden has been making Ellijay mushrooms available to its customers for over four years now and they are absolutely a customer favorite!
HONEY - MARTIN’S GARDEN WITH THE HELP OF JEFF FARMER
Martin's Garden is so lucky to have several beehives on the property and to be able to sell the honey that our buzzy friends produce. This is all thanks to our good friend and beekeeper, Jeff Farmer. Jeff became interested in beekeeping after visiting a farm near Hiwassee, Tennessee where I had the opportunity to see how to manage an apiary (e.g. lots of bee hives) first hand. He instantly loved beekeeping and decided to start in his backyard with two hives. After that start, he saw the opportunity to partner with local organic farms in North Atlanta to provide needed pollination, propagate the local honey bee population and provide to the residents in the Roswell/Milton area with "ultra local honey" that is actually from our area versus imported from another country (as 90% of honey in the US is imported). Jeff keep bees at three farms, including Martin's Garden, and maintain up to 20 beehives at the peak of summer.
